Where do I begin with these two? If I had known when Erin first emailed me how close we would become over the next few months, we probably would have flipped right then and there and started gushing about our INTJ quirks, love for “light” textbook reading material before bed, and how much we adore our little dogs. How could I have known that when I prayed for amazing couples for 2017, God would answer my prayer with Erin and Mike not only as the first couple who wrote me after I prayed for that but also my first wedding of the year in general!! I really can’t put into words how much I love these two. When I met them for their downtown Washington DC engagement session at the Columbia Room, it was like hanging out with two friends I’d known forever even though we’d just met. Ellie was there and brought so much joy to the shoot and I was THRILLED when I found out she was going to be joining us for the wedding, too!! It was seriously such a fun day!
This all would have been great and made for a DREAM wedding on its own… but then I walked in and saw how gorgeous the Hotel Monaco in downtown Washington DC is and my jaw dropped! The bridal suite, the grand staircase, all the modern design elements yet historic architecture… it was amazing!! Erin and Mike deserved nothing less than how incredible this day was. There is something so so sweet and genuine about their love and they remind me so much of me and Justin. We’ve LOVED getting to know them over the past few months… their friendship has been such a gift. I’ve never laughed harder texting a bride than when Erin warned me that her five layer tiramisu cake she made for our Italian double date dinner had turned into a single layer tiramisu cake because of a minor #bakingpowderfail. Seriously, a girl after my own heart. (We still ate the entire cake.)
As these two pack up their home and get ready for their next grand adventure in England (!!!), I’ll be reliving this day through these photos until the end of time. It was such a sweet day full of so much love and laughter and silliness… there’s nothing better!!! Erin and Mike, I hope you know how much I adore you both and how thankful I am to have gotten to be your wedding photographer. It was such an honor. I hope you cherish these photos for years to come!!
