Got a Question?!

Q: How long have you been a photographer?
A: I’ve been shooting with a DSLR since 2007, but Megan Kelsey Photography was officially born in 2013. Over the past several years, I’ve gained experience in many different shooting situations– from high school events to newborn sessions to wedding days!  I never want to stop learning, and I am so grateful for everyone who has helped my passion bloom into a business!

Q: Nikon or Canon?
A: Well… I started out as a NIKON girl but eventually switched to Canon at the end of 2013. I am in love with my Canon L series lenses and full frame 5DIII. I try not to say the word “never,” but… I’m never going back!!

Q: Can I schedule a consultation?
A: Of course!  If you’re planning a wedding, I would love to sit down with you and hear more about your love story and all about your wedding day!!  Just fill out the contact form and mention you’d like to schedule a meeting with me.

Q: Your wedding package “begins” at $2,000. What does this include?
A: I currently offer one all-inclusive wedding photography package that includes 8 hours of photography, two photographers, and digital images from the day as well as a complimentary engagement session. You can add on an album, various prints or canvases, or extra hourly coverage a la carte. For more details, please contact me :)

Q: I think I want to book you for my wedding! What’s the next step?
A: Call or email me at your earliest convenience to check my availability.  If I am available, we will then schedule a consultation date to get to know each other a little better, go over a contract, and talk more engagement and wedding photography specifics!

Q: Will there be a second shooter with you at my wedding?
A: Yes!  Having a second shooter further ensures that we won’t miss a single moment of your day! Generally speaking, my second shooter will hang out with the groom + groomsmen while I’m with the bride + bridal party! Throughout the day we’ll be shooting from different angles to ensure extra variety in your images. It’s so much fun working with another photographer as a team throughout your wedding day!

Q: How many pictures do you take at a session?
A: At a portrait session I tend to take several hundred pictures that I then pick the best of the best from for your final poses that I’ll edit and upload to your online gallery.

Q: How long does it take to get my proofs back?
A: For weddings you will be able to view your preview pictures (3-5 images) within several days following your wedding date! You will receive all of your photos no more than 4 weeks after your wedding day. For all other sessions, I try to have 1-2 “sneak peek” images up within the week following your session.  You’ll get access to your online album no more than 2 weeks after your session.

Q: What should I wear to my photo shoot?
A: Please see the “What To Wear” tab above for a detailed response to this question! The short answer is whatever you feel amazing in! Try to wear bright & FUN colors.  Layer your clothing (scarves, cardigan, multiple shirts, etc.) to give your photos depth, keeping it interesting and all eyes on you!  Remember you are welcome to bring multiple outfits.  Girls: wear heavier eye make up than normal, and bring some for touch-ups.

Q: I’m not sure where I should have my photo shoot… any suggestions?
A: Not to worry!  I have plenty of suggestions for you!  Depending on how you want your pictures to look (city? nature? waterfront?), I will provide you with a list of possible shooting locations.  A couple of my favorites in this area include downtown D.C., Historic Occoquan, and Leesylvania State Park!

Q: Where are you located?
A: I’m currently in Woodbridge, Virginia, but I love shooting all over the DMV area and across the state!  I am also available for travel WORLDWIDE (I just shot a wedding in Mexico!) and have my passport ready to go!! :)

Q: How can I contact you?
A: You can either fill out a contact form under the contact tab above or email me at megankmarcus@aol.com (yes… I have an AOL email account. It’s been faithful to me for 15+ years and I just can’t leave it behind!!)
